France coach Didier Deschamps has launched a passionate defence of Kylian Mbappe. He recently insisted that the Real Madrid superstar will never run 11 kilometres per match but remains a true captain for his country.
According to him, Mbappe is physically built for bursts of extreme speed rather than the endurance running of a box-to-box midfielder that many football fans expect from him.
Deschamps added that the selfish narrative that keeps trailing Kylian is completely at odds with the reality inside the dressing room.
His words, “That’s your analysis, but I don’t believe that’s the case, even if some players might run less than others. If you want him to cover at least 11 km per match, don’t bother, he won’t.
You may like Kylian, you may not, but the younger players adore him.
You have this image of him as a selfish, individualistic guy, and while a striker certainly has to be selfish too, I can assure you that within the French national team, he acts like a true captain.”

Regarded as one of the best players in the world, he is renowned for his dribbling abilities, exceptional speed, and finishing.
Kylian Mbappé Lottin was born on 20 December 1998 in the 19th arrondissement of Paris and was raised in Bondy, Seine-Saint-Denis, in the northeastern suburbs of Paris. His father, Wilfrid , is originally from Cameroon, and, as well as being his agent, is a football coach. His mother, Fayza Lamari, is of Algerian Kabyle origin and is a former handball player.

On 22 February 2018, Mbappé was joined by former African strikers George Weah and Didier Drogba in a meeting with French President, Emmanuel Macron and FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the Élysée Palace in Paris, which focused on a sports development project in Africa. Mbappé stated that the development of African sport is important to him due to his parents’ African origins.
