There was mild drama on Monday as Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, publicly attempted to persuade his Adamawa State counterpart, Ahmadu Fintiri, to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sule made the remarks at the presentation of a book titled ‘Fintiri, the Man They Could Not Stop’, where he jokingly hinted that he came prepared should Fintiri consider joining the APC.

According to Sule, the Adamawa governor has the APC “in his DNA,” adding that both of them share similar political ideals.
“You have the APC in your DNA. We’re on the same page with you. I have brought a Tinubu’s infinity cap in case you’re thinking of joining the APC,” Sule said.
He further referenced recent political movements across several states, suggesting that defections to the APC had become a growing trend nationwide.
“Your Excellency, the governor, you have seen us going to Delta, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom, Kano, Plateau and Taraba states. And who knows, this may be an expedition that I’m coming to do,” he added.
On a more serious note, Sule said he understood the challenges of leadership, especially as a second-term governor, and commended Fintiri for his resolve in governance.
“As a governor in my second term, I understand the weight of leadership. I understand the loneliness of decision making, and I understand the courage it takes to govern with conviction under pressure,” he said.
Sule stressed that leadership goes beyond popularity, urging leaders to remain focused on purpose and service.
“Leadership is not about popularity at all costs. It is about clarity of purpose, consistency in service, patience and the fear of God,” he stated.
