The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has responded to the strike threats by organised Labour, affirming that the implementation of the sixteen-point agreement to alleviate the plight of workers over subsidy removal is still on track.
Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government to meet demands following the removal of subsidy.
In response, Onyejeocha assured that the government remains fully committed to fulfilling its obligations to workers and the less privileged in Nigeria.

She emphasized the government’s determination to fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Organized Labour, emphasizing that their commitments are steadfast.
Onyejeocha stated, “I can confidently say that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration stands firmly with the people, and the President is tirelessly working to ensure that everything is done to address the needs and concerns of the nation.”
Addressing reporters at a press conference in Abuja, Onyejeocha acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerian workers and affirmed the government’s sincerity in ongoing negotiations with trade unions.
She highlighted that negotiations are a gradual process, with resolutions unfolding in stages, but assured continued commitment to addressing labour concerns and fulfilling agreements.
Regarding the N35,000 wage award agreed upon between the government and organised labour, Onyejeocha stated that it is currently being implemented.
She acknowledged complaints about non-implementation in some public sector organizations and the private sector, which the Ministry is actively addressing for compliance across all sectors.
Onyejeocha also mentioned her mediation between the National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCEFWW), Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA), and the Federation of Construction Industries (FOCI) (Employers), leading to an agreement to resolve issues.
