The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s decision to relocate the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos, despite the controversy surrounding the move.
Keyamo made this declaration during an appearance on the Channels TV programme “Politics Today” on Wednesday.
The decision to relocate FAAN’s headquarters has sparked criticism, particularly from Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, as well as chieftains of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Northern Elders Forum (NEF), and other northern groups. They argue that the move is an attempt to marginalize the northern region.

Addressing the controversy, Keyamo affirmed, “We are going ahead. The directive has been given.”
He explained that the decision was influenced by the inefficiency of FAAN’s operations, highlighting the lack of digitalization within the organization.
Keyamo revealed that FAAN spends a significant amount, approximately N450 million annually, on flight tickets for officials traveling between Lagos and Abuja for routine administrative tasks.
Keyamo’s comments indicate the government’s determination to proceed with the relocation, emphasizing the need for efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the operations of FAAN.
