The Minister of Solid Minerals and Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has directed Mine Officers of the ministry to launch an investigation into the explosion that occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday night.
Dr. Alake issued the directive in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into both the immediate and underlying causes of the explosion.
“We have ordered a detailed investigation, and our officers will work in collaboration with the Oyo State government to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” he stated.

The minister’s directive follows reports suggesting that the explosion may have resulted from the detonation of explosive devices stored by illegal miners.
In response to the incident, Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that at least two people lost their lives, while 77 others sustained injuries.
Additionally, 58 buildings were damaged by the explosion.
Dr. Alake expressed his condolences to Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo State, acknowledging the severity of the situation and the need for a swift and comprehensive investigation to prevent future occurrences.
