The Lagos State Ministry of Rural Development has been commended for initiating the Community Health Walk for healthy living in the rural areas of the State.
The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Community Development Committee Alhaji Bolaji Imam made the commendation while presenting an award of excellence for the initiative to the Commissioner for Rural Development, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi in his office.
According to him, “the Community Development Committee together with Community Development Associations in Ibeju-Lekki are highly impressed with the Health Walk brought to our area last month and have benefited a lot from the initiative and the health talk at the end of the walk”.
While thanking the CDC for the award bestowed on him on behalf of the Ministry, Hon. Ojelabi urged them to continue with the programme on a monthly basis as this will go a long way in ensuring that their people kept fit all the time and maintain a healthy living habit.
He implored them not to rely on the Local Government to finance the health walk but to solicit for support from corporate bodies in their areas that would see it as a Corporate Social Responsibility for the people of the area where they transact business.
Ojelabi enjoined them to try as much as possible to sustain the programme having realized its importance and should not hesitate to call on the Ministry for assistance if the need arose.
