There are indications that two governorship aspirants of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, George Moghalu and John Nwosu, may meet to harmonize their interests before the party’s primaries for the 2025 gubernatorial election.
Both aspirants, who hail from Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area, are vying for the LP ticket for the election scheduled to hold in November this year.
Speaking during a press conference at his residence on Wednesday, Moghalu, the immediate past Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), described Nwosu as a close ally and in-law.

He hinted at the possibility of the two working together to avoid resource wastage and to protect Nnewi’s interests.
“He [Nwosu] is my brother, my friend, and in fact, my in-law. Nothing is cast in iron, and we have a good personal relationship. We also have relations who are involved in the politics of the town,” Moghalu stated.
“I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us meeting and discussing so that we don’t waste resources and time. We need to work together to actualize the Nnewi dream. It is not impossible to meet. Politics is about human dynamics.
Even the party constitution provides for such discussions to ensure things work out well.”
Moghalu emphasized the importance of unity in the Labour Party’s efforts to form the next state government.
He revealed that he and Nwosu had been in constant communication, adding that more discussions would likely take place before the primaries.
“We will meet, certainly we will meet. There is still a lot of time.
Yesterday, we were together in Onitsha, and before the primary election, we may still hold further conversations,” he said.
While expressing his commitment to the gubernatorial race, Moghalu insisted he has what it takes to succeed Governor Chukwuma Soludo and set Anambra State on the right path.
He affirmed that his decision to contest remains firm, regardless of the outcome of any discussions with Nwosu.
