In a surprising turn of events in the ongoing legal battle involving Nigerian artist Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has issued a production warrant. This dramatic development occurred during the court proceedings on Friday, October 5, 2023.
Naira Marley is currently facing a slew of charges, numbering 11 in total, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These charges primarily revolve around conspiracy and credit card fraud.
During the recent court session, the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), informed the court that Naira Marley was unable to attend the hearing due to his detention by the Police. The detention is reportedly in connection with the murder investigation of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, who is also known as Mohbad.

In response to this unforeseen absence, Olalekan Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial to accommodate the circumstances.
On the other side, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, made a fervent plea to the court to issue a production warrant against the defendant. This move was proposed to ensure Naira Marley’s presence at the next scheduled court appearance.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo, presiding over the case, acceded to the prosecution’s request and issued the production warrant against Naira Marley.
Consequently, the trial has been adjourned to October 30, 2023, allowing time for the artist’s appearance in court as ordered by the production warrant. This unexpected twist in Naira Marley’s legal saga has left many in suspense, eager to witness the outcome of the impending court proceedings.
