Margot Robbie has been touted to play Sharon Tate in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie about Hollywood’s Manson murders.
Rumours that Robbie will star in Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have been swirling for a while, with new reports she has been offered the role.
Deadline reports that negotiations are underway with the I, Tonya actress, which would make her the third major name to sign onto the flick about Hollywood actors involved Manson murders.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt have already been announced to play television star Rick Dalton and his long-time stunt double Cliff Booth, respectively. The movie will take place in Los Angeles in 1969, where both men lived next door to Sharon Tate and her husband Roman Polanksi. Tate was famously murdered by Manson’s followers.
The actor playing controversial director Roman Polanski has not yet been announced, but IndieWire reports Tarantino is looking for an unknown European actor for the role.
Robbie has been the major pick for the role of Tate for a while, following reports Jennifer Lawrence was rejected because Tate’s family thought she was “not pretty enough.” “That’s a horrible thing to say, but I have my standards. My pick would be Margot simply because of her physical beauty,” Debra Tate, Sharon Tate’s sister, told TMZ.
Tarantino’s ninth feature will be released by on August 9, 2019, which marks the 50th anniversary of Tate’s murder. It’s the first film Tarantino will shoot since severing ties with the Weinstein Company.
