The PDP Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, said there was hope for the party with the emergence Alhaji Adamu Mu`azu as PDP Chairman.
.
Anenih made this known on Thursday in Abuja when he led a delegation of the party`s BoT members on a courtesy call on Mu`azu.
.
He said that the visible effort of Mu`azu to re-build the party since he assumed office was an indication that there was hope for the PDP and the country generally.
.
“I want to thank you for being a team player. Today we have a National Working Committee (NWC) as a team and no longer as a group,’’ Anenih said.
.
He specially commended the PDP chairman for embarking on a reconciliation tour across the country since he assumed office.
.
This, according to him, has never happened in the party`s history since its inception.
.
According to him, Mu`azu`s efforts and that of the party`s NWC to re-building and reconciling the party is already yielding fruits.
.
This, he said, would make the job of the PDP BoT members complementary.
.
The PDP BoT chairman, while appreciating the electorate for ensuring that the PDP remained in power, said that “PDP is Nigeria and Nigeria is PDP’’.
.
He, however, said that the party expected the electorate to continue to vote the PDP into power.
.
“This is an election year, we have to develop and continue what you have started on the reconciliation efforts.
.
“Everyone counts. And when I see you moving from place to place, getting people back, I feel very soon we can sleep with our two eyes closed,’’ he said.
.
Speaking, the party national chairman said that though he assumed office when morale in the party was low, the party would regain its lost grounds in record time.
.
“We have taken over this party at a time when the morale of members is actually very low, at a time when we have lost ground.
.
“At a time when competition is apparently going to be very interesting. At a time when we have the opposition developing the skill of poaching,’’ Mu`azu said.
.
He, however, assured that in spite of the challenges, hopes were not lost for the party as everything was being done to ensure that the party regained its lost ground.
.
He added that he would continue to collaborate with members and leaders of the party to rebuild and reconcile all aggrieved members.
.
“In consultation with you our leaders and with your prayers and support, not only will we regain lost ground, we will be strengthened and get back to our proper leadership position,’’ he said.
.
Mu`azu said that the party’s elders were not adequately consulted in the past, adding that this would be corrected under his leadership.
.
“The job is tough and these are tough times, first thing must be done first.
.
“I assure each and everyone of you that I will come to your various homes to see you and consult with you and even pay my homage and respect,’’ Mu`azu said.
