Cristiano Ronaldo says he is not worried about his inability to score goals this season and is convinced Real Madrid will soon turn things around.
“My stats don’t matter. I am super calm,” Ronaldo told reporters after Wednesday’s game. “Nowadays it doesn’t count for you journalists if you produce a big performance. You just look at goals, goals, goals. The stats are over there.
“I won’t speak about that, because if you type into Google ‘Cristiano goals’ there’s everything there, so it doesn’t affect me at all.”
“The important thing is the end result and not the beginning,” Ronaldo told beIN SPORTS. “The fans have to be patient and confident. We admit that we are not playing as we should. But I don’t see the team so badly, we have to be calm and confident. We know we are in a bad spell but things change.
“Of course it’s bad because we lost and we are accustomed to winning. It’s a bad spell and we want to change and I’m certain that we will. We still have a lot of time to improve and I’m convinced we will.”
“I think the new players who we’ve added recently to the squad are full of potential and they will be the future of Real Madrid, but if you ask me, yes, all the big teams need great players,” he said.
“Obviously, Pepe was a great player, Morata, James, all the players who left us made us stronger. I am not saying the players who came are not, but they are younger. It is their first year in the team. It is not an excuse.
“We need [Dani] Carvajal, [Gareth] Bale, as well — all of the injured players because when we are all fit, the team is stronger.”
Ronaldo felt Wednesday’s result against Tottenham was not a fair reflection of his team’s performance.
“I think the result didn’t show what we did on the pitch,” the 32-year-old said. “Tottenham’s first goal was offside and at Girona their second goal was also offside. These are things that we cannot control but what we can is our attitude and our fighting spirit and that wasn’t lacking in either game.”
