The assurance was given by Douye Diri that he would continue to serve as governor for all of Bayelsa State’s residents, regardless of whatever political party they support.
He made the statement during a speech not too long after the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Kuta Farouq, proclaimed him the victor of Saturday’s governorship race in the state. The election took place in the state.
His nearest competitor, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, received a total of 110, 108 votes, while Diri received a total of 175, 196 votes, which allowed him to win the election.
In addition, the governor extended his gratitude to the voters for electing him.
He continued by saying, “I am also immensely grateful to the leadership of our great party – the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels as well as our dedicated campaign team and supporters, who worked tirelessly to spread our message of progress and unity throughout the entirety of Bayelsa State.”
