The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted the general public against the use of Tafrodol Drugs by Deep Pharmaceutical, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

NAFDAC stated that the active ingredients for Tafrodol subject to the manufacturer are Tapentadol Hcl 100mg and Carisoprodol 125mg. NAFDAC stated that Tapentadol is an opioid analgesic and Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant.
Subject to the two combination of active ingredients in Tafrodol; it is dangerous to use them together as it can result in side effects such as profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and/or death.
NAFDAC stated that it has not authorised the sale of Tafrodol in Nigeria. NAFDAC noted that buying the medication or any product not authorized by NAFDAC, might lead to buying falsified medicines as it may worsen the condition.
In view of this, NAFDAC has urged members of the public to consult their healthcare providers if they have pain that require analgesics that are not sold without a prescription.
NAFDAC has therefore charged the public to purchase drugs and other medical products only from trusted pharmacies.
NAFDAC hereby implores importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare providers and consumers to be cautious when buying medicines and be vigilant to avoid the importation, distribution, sale and use of Tafrodol. NAFDAC also advised consumers to report adverse effects from the use of the medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office.
