Concerns have been voiced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State regarding the recent demonstration by Nasarawa State residents in Lagos State.
The natives of Nasarawa staged demonstrations to voice their displeasure with the state government’s purported selling of public assets.
The PDP, however, asserted that the demonstration was staged in order to damage Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s reputation as the previous governor of the state.
At a news conference in Lafia on Wednesday, Francis Orogu, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, shared his opinion.
Orogu, addressing the tension caused by the protest, claimed that the current events were nothing more than an attempt to blackmail the ex-governor.
As Orogu put it, “What is happening now is just to blackmail Al-Makura because he is not giving them the political support they want in the way they want it.” Not receiving the necessary political backing on the tribunal issue, they believe the next step is to “hit him below the belt.”
Francis called the demonstration a stunt orchestrated by the Abdullahi Sule administration to put pressure on a man who isn’t giving the government the assistance it needs while it fights off legal challenges.
It’s a political ploy to make things even more tense within the country. Nasarawa State’s real estate sales are not a secret. It’s common knowledge that assets were liquidated during the previous government. It was widely known that the assets of Nasarawa State had been cleaned up and sent to the 8th Assembly. These properties were sold as they sat, debated, and pushed it through.
As chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, I took a stand against him and nearly succeeded in having him impeached. I gave you absolutely everything you needed to know and more. However, my actions are not motivated by spite, animosity, or emotion on my part.
That’s what I did because it was the task the government assigned to me. As the leader of the opposition, I am carrying out the same action today. To indict an opponent who has finished his tenure and is resting, I can even say resting in peace, politically, what is occurring in Lagos is just another team of lads assembled to create way for it.
He claimed that Sule and his group “are merely trying to bring him to book to show him that the short time remaining, if he cannot provide them the requisite assistance, they would fish him out. But the question remains as to whether or not he purchased the properties alone.
I have every file. On this appeal, I am a member of the court. No one had any right to give me even one kobo. A few of them sneaked up on me and demanded that I hand over these discs. I assured them that “the intention of my documents is truth,” and not blackmail.
The state chairman dared Governor Sule to reveal the property’s true market value to the individuals who had bought it in Apapa, Lagos, for a pitiful sum.
If you want to know who acquired the N80 million Apapa property, you should ask A.A. Sule.
That land is worth a lot of money. Whoever purchased it is a mystery. I have access to the files in question. Since some of us are here and know some of this, nobody can take advantage of anyone for very little.
And as far as I’m concerned, nobody employs me. He explained, “I am fighting for my principles, my beliefs, my rights, and my conscience.”
