In a move to mark the New Year, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has granted clemency to 14 inmates serving various jail terms at Custodial Centres within the state.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr. Labaran Magaji, in a statement released on Monday in Lafia.
Governor Sule’s decision to pardon the inmates was based on the powers vested in him by sections 212 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

This action was taken following consultations with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
The released inmates, whose freedom coincides with the New Year celebrations, include: Sani Musa, Mohammed Maji, Danjuma Anthony, Ali Mohammed, Yahuza Turaki, Ibrahim Musa, Abdullahi Usman, ThankGod Bananas, Usman Idris, Adamu Sule, Terzungwe Mshi, Shehu Abubakar, Zacheous Ayuba, and Surajo Abdullahi.
Mr. Magaji, while announcing the pardons, urged the beneficiaries to uphold the law and avoid engaging in activities that could lead to their return to correctional facilities.
The governor’s gesture reflects his administration’s commitment to justice and rehabilitation, aiming to give the pardoned individuals a chance to reintegrate into society positively.
