NDC, Obidient Movement Reject Ganduje’s Claim on Obi-Kwankwaso 2027 Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Obidient Movement have dismissed claims by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, that the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket cannot win the 2027 election.

Both groups argued that Obi and Kwankwaso have strong governance records and extensive political support bases capable of delivering victory in the next general election.

Ganduje had described the NDC presidential ticket as “dead on arrival,” contending that neither Obi nor Kwankwaso possessed the leadership credentials or political legacy required to win the presidency.

He also questioned the duo’s popularity and achievements in their respective home states of Anambra and Kano.

Reacting, the NDC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, dismissed Ganduje’s comments, describing them as baseless.

“He is just blabbing,” Abdulsalam said.

He further argued that the former APC chairman had lost political relevance in Kano State, insisting that the NDC was well-positioned to dominate the state’s elections because of Kwankwaso’s political influence.

“We are confident of clearing all the State Assembly seats. We are also confident of winning the senatorial, House of Representatives and governorship elections as well,” he said.

Abdulsalam also cited Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election as evidence of his nationwide appeal, expressing confidence that the former Anambra State governor would secure even more votes in Northern Nigeria in 2027 due to the country’s current economic situation.

Also reacting, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko, criticised Ganduje’s remarks and questioned his credibility.

Tanko defended Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, noting that he left office with substantial financial reserves.

“He left N75 billion in the coffers of Anambra State,” he said.

He also praised Kwankwaso’s achievements as governor of Kano State, highlighting infrastructure development and education programmes that sponsored students to study abroad.
