The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Cross River State has said it will field credible candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The state chairman of the party, Goddie Akpama, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Calabar.
Akpama said the party has witnessed significant growth following the recent defection of prominent political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He described the NDC as an emerging political force, noting that it has gained momentum in recent days.
“The NDC represents a new direction for Nigeria and remains committed to providing credible leadership,” he said.
According to him, the party is aligning with key political figures to strengthen its structure and expand its national appeal.
Akpama acknowledged the presence of internal disagreements within the party but said such issues are part of democratic practice and would not weaken its resolve.
He added that efforts are ongoing to build unity among members and stakeholders to prevent internal crises.
The chairman further stated that the party is consolidating its base and positioning itself as a viable alternative platform capable of taking over leadership at both national and state levels.
“We are not jokers. We will ensure that all elective positions are filled with candidates who have capacity and integrity,” he said.
Akpama noted that the party’s immediate focus is to strengthen its internal structure and maintain cohesion as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
