Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle United for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, multiple sources have told said.
Wijnaldum will now travel to Merseyside to undergo a medical “as soon as possible,” one source said.
Sky Sports News reports that the two clubs have settled on a deal in the region of around £25 million.
Wijnaldum is set to depart the North-East club after their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Liverpool have already strengthened in the forward area this summer after they paid £30m to prise Sadio Mane away from Southampton.
Wijnaldum featured in Newcastle’s friendly with Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday evening and manager Rafa Benitez said afterwards that he was treating the 25-year-old as his own player until told otherwise.
“I can’t really say anything other than that we will have to wait to see what happens,” Benitez said. “He is still our player and that means he has to be ready for us.
“If something happens [with Liverpool], we will know in some days. But until something changes, we will continue training and working with him, and we will continue playing him in the games.”
Wijnaldum joined Newcastle from PSV Eindhoven in July 2015 for a reported fee of £14.5m. In his first season in the Premier League, the Netherlands international scored 11 goals in 38 appearances.
Meanwhile, one player who could be departing Anfield is Joe Allen after Liverpool have accepted an offer of £13m from Stoke City for the Welsh international.
