In a surprising turn of events, Yakubu Abdulmalik Bala, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Katcha Constituency, has officially defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker made this announcement during a session at the House on Wednesday, where he symbolically raised the APC flag.
Explaining his decision, Bala attributed it to the commendable efforts of the Governor in delivering tangible benefits of governance to the people.

He expressed his confidence in the APC’s agenda and its ability to positively impact the state.
The Speaker of the House welcomed Bala’s move, expressing his delight at having the lawmaker join the ruling party.
In a lighthearted remark, he noted the irony of having a Minority Leader in a house where only one person represents the minority party.
Despite the attention his defection has garnered, Bala declined to provide further details or comments on his decision when approached by journalists.
