Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has said that Nigeria’s present economic and social challenges did not begin with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Sunday during a special church service held at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Akume noted that President Tinubu has already initiated robust reforms aimed at addressing some of the nation’s longstanding problems.
He emphasised that the responsibility of nation-building rests on all citizens, not just the government.

“Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve,” Akume stated.
The former Benue State Governor reiterated Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the country through bold policy steps, including the removal of fuel subsidy and other reforms targeted at stabilising the economy.
He further noted that although the reforms may appear painful, they are necessary for long-term growth.
“The President needs the support of every Nigerian. What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But, I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light,” the SGF added.
Akume urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of government policies, stressing that collective effort and faith are essential in navigating the nation through its current challenges.
