The Borno State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Monday appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima to pay priority attention to the workers’ welfare.
Chairman of the congress, Mr Titus Abana, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri.
Abana observed that the state government was committed to the welfare of its workers but said that it must continue to take steps toward improving on the lot of civil servants in the state.
He urged Shettima to look into the case of the workers, who were disengaged from the service of Maiduguri International Hotels, Borno Investment Company and others working in state-owned revenue generation companies that were not functioning.
“Even though these workers were supposed to work and generate salaries for themselves, the government should still look into the posibility of bringing them into the civil service because of the situation in the state”.
He explained that the union would continue to push for better working condition for the state employees to ensure good welfare packages and conducive working environment for them.
