The Nigerian National petroleum Corporation has announced that it is prepared to support fleet owners to be well patronized and take part in the oil and gas maritime business in Nigeria.

This was stated by the NNPC’ Group Managing Director, Mallam Kyari, during a courtesy visit by the members of the Nigerian Fleet Implementation Committee at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
The NNPC boss further stated that with regards to the Corporation’s involvement in the maritime sector, NNPC will support the Fleet Management Committee inorder to improve synergy between the Corporation and the private sector.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Fleet Implementation Committee, Mr. Hassan Bello pleaded with NNPC to grant local shipping companies the right of first refusal in crude oil lifting contracts.
Mr. Hassan Bello, said Nigeria loses an average of $1.9bn to foreign ship owners yearly. He there urged the General Managing Director, Mallam Kyari to encourage NNPC subsidiaries to always transact business with indigenous shipping companies.
According to the chairman, the Nigerian Fleet Implementation Committee, was established three years ago under the Federal Ministry of Transportation with the aim to foster Nigerian ownership of ships and vessels to allow indigenous companies control the shipping business.
