The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is set to roll out Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) delivery installations across all its filling stations nationwide, announced NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, on Wednesday.
Kyari stated that this deployment aligns with a recent presidential directive urging government institutions to procure CNG-powered vehicles, as reported by The PUNCH on Monday. The directive mandates all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to transition to CNG-powered vehicles and generators.
During the presidential commissioning of three gas projects, Kyari highlighted NNPC’s commitment to broadening CNG as an alternative fuel for automobiles. He emphasized Nigeria’s substantial natural gas resources, with proven reserves exceeding 209 trillion cubic feet.

These gas projects, including the expansion of gas processing plants and pipeline infrastructure, aim to monetize Nigeria’s abundant gas resources, support economic growth, industrialization, and job creation.
Kyari also mentioned NNPC’s ongoing initiatives such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline, fertiliser and petrochemical plants, and various LNG projects. Additionally, NNPC is executing a Compressed Natural Gas project to provide a cleaner and cheaper fuel alternative to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The three gas projects inaugurated virtually by President Tinubu include expansions of gas processing plants and pipeline infrastructure. Kyari highlighted their significance in increasing gas processing capacity and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply, reducing import dependency, eliminating gas flaring, and promoting environmentally friendly energy sources.
On the sidelines of the Assa Gas Process Treatment Facility commissioning in Imo State, Nnena Anyawun, Managing Director of Oilserve Engineering Limited, expressed pride in contributing to Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuel. He emphasized the project’s potential to drive economic turnaround, improve infrastructure delivery, enhance global competitiveness, and support Nigeria’s Decade of Gas agenda.
