The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has extended an invitation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tour the recently rehabilitated Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State.
In a statement released on Thursday, NNPCL said the visit would enable the former president to verify the operational status of the refinery, which recently resumed operations.
This follows Obasanjo’s comments during an interview with Channels Television, where he questioned the refinery’s operational capacity.

NNPCL, in its response, highlighted the progress made under its leadership and emphasized the importance of the visit.
“We extend an invitation to our esteemed former president to join us in this historic journey.
His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and we deeply appreciate his insights and guidance, which will always be welcomed and cherished,” the statement read.
The company further expressed gratitude for Obasanjo’s contributions to Nigeria’s development and reiterated its commitment to achieving energy security and sustainable value for the nation.
“Additionally, we warmly invite President Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated refineries and witness firsthand the progress made under the leadership of NNPC Limited.
Together, we can continue to ensure energy security and deliver sustainable value to all Nigerians,” it added.
The Port Harcourt Refinery, a key facility in Nigeria’s oil sector, is part of NNPCL’s broader strategy to enhance the country’s refining capacity and reduce dependency on imported petroleum products.
