The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has cautioned the Kano State House of Assembly to tread carefully over moves to remove the elected deputy governor of the state.
The party issued the warning in a statement on Thursday signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye.
In the statement, the NNPP said that in view of the ongoing political realignments and defections, the Assembly should recognise that an elected official cannot be compelled to take decisions that contradict his principles.

The party also urged the Kano State Government to avoid actions capable of triggering an unnecessary political crisis in the state.
According to the party, the political atmosphere in Kano State is already sensitive and any development that could further heighten tensions should be avoided.
The NNPP further stated that its members are law-abiding citizens who strongly believe in the rule of law.
It therefore called on authorities to allow its members to freely express their political views without facing intimidation or prejudice.
Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday initiated impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office and breach of public trust.
