The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of engineering internal crises within opposition parties to bolster its chances of winning the 2027 general elections and securing a second term for President Bola Tinubu.
Ahmed made the allegations during the flag-off of the NNPP’s campaign in Akure, the Ondo State capital, ahead of the upcoming off-cycle governorship election.
The NNPP chairman stressed the need for opposition parties to unite against the APC, pledging his party’s participation in any coalition aimed at removing the ruling party from power.
“The NNPP will support and join any alliance by opposition parties to unseat the APC and President Tinubu,” Ahmed stated.
Ahmed also expressed concerns about potential election manipulation by the APC in Ondo, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
“The fear of the APC manipulating the election is real, especially in Ondo. But it is our responsibility to guard our votes by deploying credible agents who will supervise the counting process.
With such measures, there is little the APC can do to alter the outcome.”
While acknowledging the APC’s efforts to interfere with opposition parties, Ahmed urged them to maintain their integrity.
“APC is undoubtedly working to influence opposition parties, but it is up to us to remain united and viable as an alternative before and after the 2027 elections.
If a coalition forms, the NNPP is ready to participate. If not, we are also prepared to contest independently,” he said.
The party’s standard-bearer in Ondo, Edema, encouraged the electorate to resist intimidation and avoid vote trading.
“Do not let the power of incumbency intimidate you or engage in vote-trading that could worsen the hardship in the country,” Edema said.
He also vowed that the tactics employed by the ruling party in other states would not succeed in Ondo.
“Ondo State is not Edo, nor is it Lagos. The people of Ondo are among the most enlightened in the country.
We will protect our votes and resist any attempt to undermine the electoral process,” he declared.
“We do not fear them. We will challenge them.”
