The National leadership of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has disclosed the rationale behind its decision to change its logo, despite opposition from the party’s southwest zonal chapter.
The decision to change the logo was made during the party’s national convention, where new national working committee (NWC) members were ratified, and a new logo and slogan were unveiled.
In a live TVC program, “Beyond 100 Days,” the national secretary of the NNPP, Dapo Oluyokun, explained, “In the last general elections, we suffered some setbacks because of the logo we had. Many of our members across the country were calling the national secretariat to complain that our logo was not on the ballot paper.”
Oluyokun further elaborated, “Even myself, when I entered the polling booths, it took some time to identify what INEC gave to us in the ballot paper. It was later we discovered that it had many colours. It really affected the production of the papers.
And that was why we said that there was a need for us to do something. At least, to do something that will make it easy for our voters and followers to identify NNPP, no matter the problems with the ballot papers produced by INEC.”
The NNPP also considered the issue of education, making it a focal point in their new slogan, “Education for All.”
Oluyokun emphasized that the party had learned from the challenges faced in the last election, particularly due to the complexity of their previous logo.
