A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has disowned Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party leader, declaring his influence a threat to the party’s progress and existence.
Leading the anti-Kwankwasiya campaign at the NNPP secretariat in Minna, Niger State, the factional National Chairman, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, asserted that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) during a meeting in Lagos effectively ended his membership and leadership stake in the party.
Dr. Agbo also supervised the symbolic burning of the Kwankwasiya group’s iconic red caps at the state secretariat, stating that the action was a clear message of disassociation from Kwankwaso’s faction.
“Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiya group have become obstacles to the unity and progress of the NNPP.
His suspension was valid, and he no longer holds any position or stake in the party,” Agbo said.
He further revealed that Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State would be summoned before the party’s disciplinary committee for allegedly violating the party’s principles and disregarding its supremacy.
In response to the development, Mallam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, the leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, dismissed Dr. Agbo’s claim to the national chairmanship as illegal.
He argued that Agbo was acting to advance personal interests rather than those of the party.
Abdulhamid reaffirmed that Kwankwaso remains the NNPP’s national leader under the legitimate leadership of Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, rejecting Agbo’s factional control.
