Hashimu Dungurawa, the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has unequivocally rejected speculations suggesting a political deal with President Bola Tinubu to secure the state.
The rumors surfaced following a meeting between NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Dismissing the speculations as baseless, Dungurawa emphasized that the NNPP stands independently and does not rely on external alliances to maintain its mandate in Kano State.

He clarified that Tinubu’s previous collaboration with Kwankwaso in 2015 was centered on the belief that Kwankwaso had the capacity to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In 2015, Kwankwaso ensured that all political seats in Kano were won by APC, and the same repeated in 2023 with NNPP winning everything, except one minor Senate seat slipping out to APC,” Dungurawa stated.
He further highlighted President Tinubu’s growing alignment with Kwankwaso, emphasizing the significance of their alliance.
Amid negative moves by Governor Ganduje and his associates ahead of the Supreme Court judgment, Dungurawa asserted the party’s confidence in divine intervention, stating, “Power belongs to God, and whether they like it or not, if He says Abba would continue to be the Governor of Kano State, there is nothing they can do.”
Dungurawa shed light on President Tinubu’s interest in Kano’s people-oriented projects, stating that the meeting aimed to discuss governance matters.
He lamented the misinterpretation by the APC in Kano, noting, “Because the APC in Kano are so aligned with negativity, they are thinking we were there to secure our mandate.”
As political dynamics unfold in Kano, the NNPP’s insistence on autonomy adds a layer of complexity to the evolving narrative surrounding the state’s political landscape.
