Angry New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) state chairmen have spoken out against what they see as underground plotting by the party’s former presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, to seize power from the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam.
The party chairman in Ekiti state, Comrade Olayinka Dada, briefed reporters in Ado-Ekiti and accused NWC members of allowing Kwakwanso to exploit them as pawns against the party’s best interests.
He suggested that the NNPP’s state leaders had voted against Abba Kawu and his National Working Committee (NWC) for allegedly colluding with Kwankwaso to implement their plot.
He lamented Kwankwaso’s “desperation” in dismantling the political organization that had provided him and his followers with a safe haven, and said that the voters had rejected the NWC leadership because of their incompetence in running the party.
Dada, who is also the spokesman for the Forum of NNDP State Chairmen, has said that suspicions were raised within the party when Kwankwaso hastily arranged a meeting with the victorious candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in France just days after the election, while other serious political parties were gathering evidence of electoral fraud with which to contest the results as announced by INEC.
He claims that Kwankwaso sold out the people of Nigeria by his sole action and numerous injustices shown before, during, and after the Presidential poll.
Among the state chairmen are their counterparts in Ekiti, Enugu, Rivers, Zamfara, Kastina, Kaduna, Niger, and so on.
Dada pointed fingers at Kwankwaso’s lack of selflessness, avarice, and sincerity as well as the actions of some undemocratic forces inside the party for the party’s poor showing in the general election.
He also said that the NWC’s decision to suspend the seven state chairmen and dissolve the whole party’s leadership at all levels, from the ward to the state, was unlawful and would not stand.
Due to the NWC’s unlawful and illegal choices, the NNPP is in the midst of an internal crisis.
After being questioned about his anti-party activities, Kwankwaso reportedly said, “I would like to inform the world that this crisis was orchestrated by me to hijack structures of the party.”
A relationship with Tinubu led to anti-party activity. This relationship had a major impact on the party’s performance in the midterm elections.
It’s clear that the renter has turned on the landlord today, but the state chairmen have vowed to never again let him live in his own building. We are aware of the scheme to install an illegitimate caretaker panel in all 10 states.
We will not tolerate anyone trying to profit off of the hard work of our party members. We pledge to protect the credibility of the party by all means necessary.
Dada asserted that the seven states’ executives were still valid and would continue to do their constitutionally mandated tasks within the legal framework of the operative party.
He said the claimed dissolution showed blatant contempt for the party’s constitution and that the NWC lacked the authority to dissolve the executives because it itself was the product of illegality.
He urged party members to maintain their dedication and not be shaken by the ‘devious antics’ of allegedly anti-democratic groups who are attempting to destabilize the party in order to gain power.
