The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Forum of State Chairmen has voiced concern about what it calls the “desperate moves” of the party’s National Working Committee to modify the party’s constitution for the third time in six months.
The Forum claimed the most recent plan was an attempt to limit the BoT Chairman’s authority as retaliation for his refusal to let injustice flourish within the party.
However, the group claims that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has compromised its positions, integrity, and vision, demonstrating that it can no longer successfully run the party.
Spokesperson for the NNPP Forum of State Chairmen Dada Olayinka Olabode issued a statement on Sunday in which the forum urged the party’s founder and board chairman, Chief Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, to immediately revoke the MOU he signed with the “desperadoes” posing as democratic leaders.
In addition, the statement claimed that Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, the party’s presidential candidate in the just finished presidential election on February 25, was behind the illegal offensive on the party and its uncompromising leaders.
Fora members were alerted to “desperate moves being made by the illegal National Working Committee of our party” to change the party’s constitution for the third time in six months.
It’s clear that the National Working Committee is trying to seize control of the party by whatever means necessary, and they’re determined to get away with it as long as they can. The most recent proposal is for eliminating clauses from the constitution that would limit the authority of the BoT Chairman.
We are well aware that the steadfast refusal of our party’s founder and chairman of the board of trustees to ever tolerate injustice as a principle has led to this latest act of desperation.
“Having covertly, illegally, and unconstitutionally doctored the constitution twice within 5 months to try to hijack the party from the Founder, they have, again, realized they cannot achieve their aims without deleting articles where the constitution donated legal powers to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees to call to order any member/organ of the party whose action is at variance to the norms, spirit, and letters of the NNPP constitution.
The Forum of State Chairmen unequivocally and passionately requests that our Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, immediately and permanently revoke the Memorandum of Understanding he signed with these thugs passing themselves off as democratic reformers.
Part of the statement stated, “We also wish to let the world know that we are totally throwing our support for the convocation of the emergency meeting of the party scheduled for 29th August, 2023 at the Rockview Hotel, Lagos as convened by the Founder.”
