The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed concerns over the recent wave of defections from the party, insisting that the NNPP remains firmly rooted in Kano and is repositioning to broaden its influence across the North ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ahmed stated this on Saturday while reacting to the exit of two members of the House of Representatives — Abdulmumin Jibrin and Sagir Koki — who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The NNPP chairman said the lawmakers’ departure had no adverse effect on the party.
“I have just two words for them: good luck.
Their exit is not a minus to NNPP. In fact, more people are joining the party every day, especially in Kano,” he said.
Ahmed maintained that the NNPP is confident of retaining Kano in 2027, despite the ongoing political realignments. According to him, the party is also targeting significant gains in other key northern states, notably Jigawa and Kaduna.
He noted that the NNPP remained open to working alone or entering alliances with other political groups where necessary to strengthen its chances at the polls.
The chairman further claimed that the party “actually won Taraba in the last election but lost the mandate,” adding that the NNPP expects to reclaim more seats in the 2027 cycle.
Recall that Jibrin and Koki said they left the NNPP due to unresolved internal issues within the party.
In recent months, several other members from Kano and Jigawa have also defected to the APC.
