It has been three months since Kizz Daniel shared the artwork for his much-anticipated sophomore album and two months since he shared — then deleted — the 20-song tracklist.
Once a music artiste shares important details such as cover artwork and tracklist, it is usually an indication that an album is imminent but Kizz Daniel appears to be an exception to the norm.
What could be behind the three-month wait for the album titled ‘No Bad Songz’.
When the singer left G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2017, the record label responded by suing him, insisting that he served a termination notice without following the stipulations under the contract he signed.
The label subsequently said it obtained a federal high court order that “both parties are ordered to maintain status quo ante bellum under the recording contract pending the hearing of the motion on notice”.
According to G-Worldwide, the singer “is duty bound to repay to the company all monies expended by the company in furtherance of the contract and all losses; including losses suffered from the cancellation of fixed events and shows by reason of the termination”.
‘No Bad Songz’ is expected to be the first album released on his independent record label, Flyboi Inc.
In August, Daniel unveiled the full tracklist of ‘No Bad Songz’, containing 20 songs.
The Instagram post was later deleted, prompting speculation that a fear of a legal hammer motivated the withdrawal of the tracklist.
Although he continuously adds #NoBadSongz to his social media posts, the singer has restrained from making any definitive announcement on the album in the past two months.
Daniel, who has signed three artistes to his Flyboy Inc record label, says the album delay is “worth the wait”.
He has already put out five singles, and ‘One Ticket’, his new collaboration with Davido, is set to be released November 2.
In a chat with HIP TV, the singer maintained that the album will be released before the end of 2018.
He said: “About the NBS album, we are working and it’s still gonna drop this year. Very very soon. In a couple of weeks, it is gonna drop. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.”
But how long fans will have to wait for ‘No Bad Songz’ remains to be seen.
Reporters reached out to Kizz Daniel and G-Worldwide Entertainment for comment on the status of their contractual dispute but neither of the parties is yet to respond.
