Popular comedian and Hollywood actress Wanda Sykes has recalled the infamous moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards. She recently revealed that Smith actually tried to apologize to her after the shocking incident.
In a new Variety profile, Wanda spoke about the end of her Netflix series “The Upshaws” and how it felt to host the 2022 Oscars.

Recalling how she co-hosted the Oscars with Amy Schumer and Regina Hall, Wanda shared that she completely forgot about the event because the Will Smith moment overshadowed it.
According to her, it was so bad that whenever people talk to her about the 2022 Oscars, they focus on the slap and never remember that she hosted.
“I forgot about that.
I mean, I loved working with Regina [Hall] and Amy [Schumer]. But like you said, it got overshadowed.
People talk to me about that night without even mentioning, ‘Oh yeah, you hosted, right?’ Like I was in the audience or at home, watching TV. But I was there,” she said.
Wanda further admitted that even though the “Finding Happiness” actor attempted to apologize to her over the phone, she could not pick up.
The entertainer concluded by saying that Chris Rock also said sorry at the Oscars afterparty, but she didn’t feel his apology was necessary.
“He called. I had COVID or a bad cold. I just texted to say, ‘Hey, I got your message. Thank you. I can’t talk.’ But he did call.
As for Rock, I was like, ‘Why are you apologizing?’ He was like, ‘It was supposed to be your night. You and Amy and Regina were doing such a great job. I’m so sorry this is now gonna be about this,’ Because that’s who Chris is,” she added.
