No Power Tussle Among Abia APC Leaders — Nyerere Anyim

Dr. Nyerere Anyim, former governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 election in Abia State and current representative of the Southeast zone in the National Pensions Commission, has insisted that there is no power tussle in the party as insinuated in some quarters.

Anyim spoke in a telephone interview with the media on Thursday over rumours of a power tussle among political leaders in the state following the controversies that trailed the outcome of the just concluded APC ward congress.

InfoStride News recalls that the Hon Donatus Nwankpa-led Caretaker Executive Committee of the APC in the state alleged that the national electoral committee assigned to the state to oversee the ward congress absconded from the exercise and worked in favour of a faction of the party that held a parallel congress.

But Anyim described the Abia APC as one of the most peaceful and organized parties in the southeast, maintaining that there is no existence of faction or leadership power tussling over the control of the party’s affairs in the state.

According to the former Southeast National vice chairman of APC, “the issue of power tussle does not exist no matter how you look at it. It is when you are aggrieved that there will be power tussle whether you agree or not, you will now see it as power tussle. The point is straight, the entire southeast or Nigeria in general, Abia APC is one of the most peaceful and organized parties. We have one executive led by Hon Donatus Nwankpa, and there is no other executive as I’m talking to you.

“So, the issue of power tussle, I don’t know where it comes from. But, I am not unmindful, because there is nothing you will not see in politics. In politics, you see all sorts of intrigues from people coming out one way to another to claim they are this or that. That does not justify or legalize whatever obnoxious claims or opinions or assumptions there may have.

“What I am trying to say is that, in Abia state, we recognize one executive, and that is the executive committee led by Nwankpa. Until their tenure elapses, and a new executive emerges. But for now, if I may use the word, there are no factions in APC in Abia state.

“Unless if you want to talk about some group of people out of ignorance or stupidity, who have failed woefully to truncate the successes of the party in the state. All I want to tell Abia people, they should ignore those distractions, and then focus on how to move the party forward, ” Anyim concluded.
