Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo will not be given any leave by his club, Watford following the death of his father.
Just hours after playing in Watford’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley on Sunday, April 24, Ighalo took to his social media accounts to announce the death of his father.
‘RIP Daddy’ he wrote alongside a black blank photo.
Speaking later, Ighalo revealed that he won’t be getting any days off as the season is almost over.
“The season is almost over, and it might be a while before all the funeral arrangements are complete, so although I will continue to stay in close contact with my family over there, I will be here with my club until then,” the 26-year-old told ESPN.
He further revealed that his dad complained of weakness a few days ago and was taken to the hospital.
“This morning, he died in his sleep,” the Super Eagles striker said.
Ighalo’s Watford are 10 points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League with four games remaining.
