The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), in partnership with the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPO), has called for peaceful elections across all 23 local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by NPJ’s team leader, Ibrahima Yakubu, the group emphasized the importance of unity among stakeholders to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
“Politicians should collaborate with civil society organizations to promote peace and unity, while also encouraging citizens to participate actively by voting for credible candidates,” Yakubu stated.

The statement also urged youths to shun violence, thuggery, and any form of misconduct before, during, and after the elections to maintain a peaceful atmosphere throughout the state.
Religious leaders were encouraged to engage in continuous prayers for peaceful elections, while the group underscored the need to protect journalists covering the election.
Additionally, the NPJ cautioned citizens against trusting unofficial election results circulating on social media, advising them to rely only on official announcements from the Electoral Commission.
The stakeholders further appealed to the Electoral Commission to ensure the timely delivery of voting materials to all polling units to avoid disruptions.
Citizens were also urged to demonstrate patriotism by rejecting vote-buying and ensuring that underage individuals do not participate in campaigns or the elections.
The NPJ, CMMRC, and CPO emphasized the need for collective efforts to uphold democracy and ensure the success of the electoral process.
