The National Universities Commission NUC has carried out a resource verification exercise in order to examine the available human and material resources for the planned Wigwe University campus in Isiokpo, which is located in the Ikeerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This evaluation was carried out in order to determine whether or not the proposed campus is feasible.
While speaking during the reception of the National Universities Commission (NUC) verification team, the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mr. Chris Maiyaki, lauded the Chancellor of the proposed University, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, for putting in place the necessary structures for the smooth takeoff of the university.

Dr. Wigwe is credited with putting in place the requisite structures for the smooth takeoff of the university.
Maiyaki remarked that it was gratifying that Principal Officers of the University had been appointed, while also expressing trust in their skill to effectively and efficiently manage the operations of the institution. Maiyaki also expressed faith in the Principal Officers’ abilities to manage the affairs of the institution.
The head of the NUC also mentioned that the verification exercise was in accordance with the NUC’s mandate, which is to ensure that the capacity required for the implementation of the university’s curriculum is up to the standards that are generally accepted all over the world.
“We are here to test your capability statements, evaluate your degree of preparedness, and determine the number as well as the quality of the resources and facilities that are available.
“It is a crucial and pivotal assignment, and it will pave the way for admissions to take place,” he added. “It is an assignment that will pave the way for admissions to take place.”
Dr. Wigwe explained earlier in his talk that the motivation for the decision to establish the institution was the necessity of putting in place the appropriate educational system all across the country in order to guarantee that the country would experience the level of development that was wanted.
When we send our children to school in another country, all that we are doing is exporting our abilities; if they perform well there, they end up finding work in that country.
“A solid education is the gift that will last the longest for the years to come. It is the only way we can take on the challenges that are being faced by the tertiary institutions.
