Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesman for the Obi-Datti Campaign, has refuted claims by Mr. Calistus Okafor that the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Bar Julius Abure, provided N850 million to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 election.
In a statement to media outlets on Wednesday, Tanko described the claim as false, asserting that Obi did not receive any funds from the party. Instead, Tanko stated, it was Obi who financially supported the party.
Tanko challenged Okafor to present evidence if the chairman indeed claimed to have given Obi money for campaigning purposes.

He emphasized that as someone deeply involved in the campaign, he was aware of most expenses and knew that the party never directly funded Obi’s campaign rallies across the country.
The Campaign spokesman highlighted that recent attacks on Obi were part of a broader campaign of calumny orchestrated by those fearful of his rising popularity among Nigerians.
“We are aware that people are already scheming for 2027 and it is unfortunate that certain individuals have chosen to divert attention from the high rate of insecurity and poverty currently threatening the very existence of our nation by constantly attacking the personality of Peter Obi,” Tanko stated.
“Those are the enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians, but I know that God will disappoint them and rescue our country from their grips whether they believe it or not.”
