The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to intensify efforts in repairing deteriorating federal roads across the state, particularly the Abeokuta-Ibadan road.
Speaker of the House, Oludaisi Elemide, made the appeal during Tuesday’s plenary session held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Elemide emphasized the need for FERMA, through its Comptroller of Works and officials in Ogun State, to support the state government’s efforts in road infrastructure by conducting urgent palliative works on the affected federal roads to ease vehicular and pedestrian movement.

“There is a pressing need for FERMA to complement the state government’s infrastructure initiatives by addressing the poor state of federal roads within the state,” Elemide said.
He expressed concern over the temporary nature of previous repairs carried out by FERMA, noting that the palliative measures often fail within a short period.
He urged the agency to implement more durable solutions on damaged sections of the roads to benefit motorists and commuters.
“The past palliative works by FERMA have only lasted a season.
It is essential for the agency to undertake more comprehensive repairs on the failed portions of these federal roads to ensure long-term usability,” Elemide added.
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with relevant federal authorities to improve road conditions for residents and travelers in Ogun State.
