The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement addressing a misleading story circulating on social media concerning Mr. Jimi Lawal’s purported role as the former gubernatorial candidate for a faction of the Ogun State PDP.
In a press release on Friday, the Ogun State PDP emphasized its commitment to accuracy in party records and set the record straight. The party clarified that the candidacy of Mr. Jimi Lawal was a strategic maneuver orchestrated by Mr. Dapo Abiodun and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State.
The move aimed to disrupt PDP activities by sponsoring Mr. Lawal to contest against Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, who had been duly prepared and poised to represent the party.
The statement highlighted the decisive intervention of the Supreme Court, which validated Hon. Adebutu’s win in the May 25, 2022, primary election held in Abeokuta.
This legal triumph nullified the conspiracies against the people of Ogun State and exposed the irregularities orchestrated by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
The release further noted that Jimi Lawal, having perceived the imminent return of the people’s mandate to the PDP through the court, has now disassociated himself and pursued private concerns outside Ogun State.
The Ogun PDP welcomed back members who might have been deceived into supporting Lawal, reaffirming their commitment to the party.
The Publicity Secretary, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, stressed that Jimi Lawal was not and should not be considered a genuine participant in the Ogun State PDP.
Bankole emphasized that Lawal was identified as a mole and treated accordingly.
As the political landscape evolves, the Ogun PDP seeks to ensure transparency and maintain the trust of the public in the party’s activities.
