Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group said its decision followed what it described as careful deliberation and objective assessment of the political interests of the South-East region.

Ohanaeze stated that supporting Tinubu’s second-term bid would position the Igbo nation to secure the vice-presidential slot under the All Progressives Congress in 2031 while also ensuring the region benefits from ongoing federal projects and policies.
The organisation also reiterated resolutions reportedly reached in January 2026 alongside the South-East Governors’ Forum, former governors from the region and serving ministers, maintaining that no Igbo candidate, including Peter Obi, should contest against Tinubu in 2027.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the National Spokesperson, Chief Thompson Ohia.
According to the statement, the decision was aimed at allowing the Federal Government to complete infrastructure projects in the South-East, facilitate the creation of additional states in the region and implement policies targeted at economic development.
“Ohanaeze extends its congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in the APC 2026 presidential primaries,” the statement said.
The group also congratulated South-East governors seeking re-election in 2027 and specially commended Rt. Hon. Kingsley O. Chinda of Rivers State for emerging as the APC governorship candidate in the state.
Ohanaeze further disclosed that strategic discussions had commenced with key political stakeholders, including the Presidency, towards ensuring that an Igbo politician emerges as Vice President after Tinubu’s tenure in 2031.
The organisation mentioned Dave Nweze Umahi and Chimaroke Nnamani as potential contenders for the position.
It added that achieving the objective would require massive support for Tinubu from the South-East in the 2027 general election.
