Samuel Okoronkwo, Ebonyi Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, says Governor David Umahi is free to support a presidential candidate in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo general election.
Okoronkwo stated his principal’s position on Friday in Abakaliki during a chat with newsmen at the election and inauguration of the state chapter.
He said as a delegate to the January 10 election in Owerri, the Imo capital, “Umahi is free to support any candidate of his choice.
“It is normal in democratic norms for a delegate to support a candidate and the Ohaneze Ndigbo election would not be an exception.”
Okoronkwo added that it does not infer that such a candidate is contesting on behalf of Ebonyi.
The official commended the electoral panel and delegates for their conduct.
The elected persons will head to Owerri to participate in the apex Igbo group’s election.
The new Ebonyi Leader of Ohanaeze, Peter Mbam, thanked the delegates for ensuring his emergence.
Mbam is the Special Assistant to Umahi on Small and Medium Enterprises.
