The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint a woman to lead the nation’s economic revival, citing the need for a globally experienced Nigerian female economist to steer Nigeria away from disaster.
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, highlighted the disproportionate impact of the current economic hardship on women.
He emphasized the importance of appointing a female economist to address the challenges faced by Nigerian women, such as the lack of accessible healthcare facilities, rising maternal mortality rates, crushing inflation affecting small and medium businesses run by women, and pervasive hunger making it difficult for mothers to feed their children or afford education costs.

In a statement marking this year’s Women’s Day, Isiguzoro prayed for President Tinubu to have the wisdom to navigate Nigeria through the current economic storms towards a brighter future.
He urged President Tinubu to make tough decisions, including overhauling his economic team, to avert Nigeria’s total collapse.
Isiguzoro emphasized that Nigerian women have little cause for celebration compared to their global counterparts thriving in prosperous economies.
He called for immediate intervention at all governance levels to prevent further suffering among women, children, and youth, highlighting that the current economic team is struggling to find solutions, and the deep-rooted damage cannot be fixed by their efforts alone.
