Ex-Nigeria captain, Sunday Oliseh and South African television icon, Carol Tshabalala will compere proceedings at the 2013 Glo-CAF Awards Gala on Thursday, January 9 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The two personalities, no strangers to the globular leather will be expected to add glitz to the ceremony designed to celebrate and honour African football personalities for their heroics for the year 2013.
Dozens of personalities from players, coaches, administrators, fans and all the stakeholders of the world’s popular sport have confirmed their attendance for the ceremony billed for the plush Eko Convention Centre, located in Victoria Lagos, Lagos.
Oliseh, a cult figure in his native Nigeria for his exploits during his playing days, will for the first time be seen in an unfamiliar platform other than the playing turf, as he partners Tshabalala to drive the event to the much-anticipated dizzy heights.
A prolific defensive midfielder in his playing days, he starred for top clubs such as Ajax (Netherlands), Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Juventus (Italy).
The 39-year old currently acts as a pundit appearing on several international networks to discuss, preview and review matches. A qualified coach (UEFA Pro-License holder), Oliseh was named in the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) during last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where incidentally Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were crowned champions for a record fourth time.
The defensive midfielder made over 60 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring some splendid goals including a belter against Spain during the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. Besides appearing at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in USA, the workaholic player was also a member of the victorious Nigerian squads at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and 1996 Olympic Games in USA.
On the otherhand, Tshabalala anchors various programmes on Football, Boxing and Rugby on South African pay television channel, Supersports. She also presents her own show- “Love PSL” which focuses on football lifestyle.
Previously, she was the only female soccer anchor in South Africa, presenting live Premier Soccer League matches on “Laduma” on SABC 1.
A broadcasting career that began in 2000, Tshabalala has gone on to host high profile events including 2003 and 2008 “Miss South Africa and Miss South Africa teen” pageants. Her biggest probably remains compering the 2011 FIFA Ballon D’or Awards Gala in Zurich Switzerland, with Pedro Pinto, formerly of CNN.
