Following the conclusion of collation and announcement of final result for the Governorship election in Ondo State which saw the re-emergence of the incumbent and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN., for a second and final term, Chieftain of the APC and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has expressed satisfaction over the exercise.
In a statement made available to media houses, Monday, Eze said a holistic appraisal of the electioneering processes and balloting which took place last Saturday, reveals that the exercise was not only relatively peaceful, depicting an appreciable degree of a global standard of election in a democratic society but most importantly demonstrates that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is well equipped to improve on the democratic credentials of our nation.
The party Chieftain commended the Transportation Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi and other leaders of the party for the huge solidarity and support given the candidate of the party, Rotimi Akeredolu, which saw to his emergence in the fierce electoral battle of Saturday.
With this development, APC has proved once again that with unity future victories of the party in subsequent elections are assured.
Applauding officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for sticking to the ethics of fairness in the discharge of their electoral duties, Eze hailed security agencies for limiting their operations within the province of electoral guidelines, adding that their display of sound ethical norms and professional conduct contributed to the credibility of the poll.
Congratulating the Ondo State Governor and candidate of the APC, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN for this great victory, he pleaded with him for the interest of the party to set in motion a unification mechanism to unite all party Chieftains and Stakeholders for a stronger, virile, visionary and united APC in the State but most importantly provide public light to the areas that have no public light all these years at an age we are in and ensures that all his campaign pledges are implemented accordingly.
While calling on Jegede, Agboola and other opposition candidates and parties that participated in the contest, to throw their weights behind the winner for public interest, the party chief congratulated Gov. Akeredolu, the entire Ondo APC family and the good people of the state for the big win.
Eze reassures Jegede who happens to be his very close friend right from their days in Adamawa State to not only join APC but work very closely with the Governor for a better and greater Ondo State as the future of the State lays in the hands of patriotic and educated leaders like him.
From the results as declared by INEC the victorious APC Candidate defeated his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Eyitayo Jegede, in 15 of the 18 Local Government Areas where the election took place. According to INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Akeredolu polled a total of 292,830 votes as against Jegede’s 195,791 votes.
