The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to compromise the upcoming November 16 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the PDP’s state publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the opposition party alleged that APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin is orchestrating a plot to influence the election by appointing APC members as presiding and assistant presiding officers at polling units.
According to Peretei, Adetimehin submitted a list of two APC members per polling unit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to serve in these roles, even though these individuals did not participate in the mandatory training for election staff.
“The training of presiding officers and assistant presiding officers by INEC is a prerequisite for recruiting such ad hoc staff,” Peretei said.
In response, APC’s publicity secretary, Alex Kalejaye, dismissed the allegations as baseless. Kalejaye stated that the APC has no intention of undermining the electoral process, emphasizing that the party’s focus is on engaging voters through its campaign efforts.
“It is not true. We have no reason to contemplate compromising the election.
We have worked very hard; we have worked for the people,” Kalejaye stated, citing numerous projects and initiatives across the state’s 18 local government areas as evidence of the APC’s commitment to improving conditions for Ondo residents.
The Ondo PDP’s allegations have intensified political tensions as both parties ramp up their campaigns ahead of the closely watched governorship election.
