The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has identified strategic preparedness as the only saving grace from infectious diseases.
Mr Sanwo-Olu, stated this disclosed during the Policy Session of the ongoing 6th African Conference tagged ‘One-Health and Biosecurity’, which is convened by the Lagos Ministry of Health, in partnership with GET Consortium, where explained that strategic and effective level of preparedness can save humas emerging infectious diseases.
According to the state goveror, Lagos is still learning from the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that all other necessary efforts the state need to put in, in response to the infection will be utilized incase of future occurrence of pandemics and other infectious diseases.
In his words the Governor reiterated his commitment to develop infrastructure that will equip the State in preparation for a future health crisis.
The Governor also commended the organisers of the 6th African Conference on ‘One-Heath and Biosecurity’, the Governor noted that the importance of strategic health conferences should be taken seriously so as to help guide health policies, plans and programmes in order to facilitate the health of citizens.
In his remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, said that it is important to secure the environment as human health depends on the environment they live.
In his words biosecurity simply means security, and the need to be secured, to protect we humans from excessive pollution or infections.
