In a surprising turn of events, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, paid a visit to the Kuje Maximum Security Prison in Abuja to meet with the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Sources within the correctional centre revealed to DAILY POST that the Ooni made two visits on Tuesday, 5th December. During these visits, the monarch engaged in extensive discussions with Emefiele, who is currently detained due to his inability to meet the N300 million bail conditions set by the court.
It is reported that the Ooni, following his discussions with Emefiele, called for the release of the former CBN governor.

Emefiele, facing a six-count charge related to procurement fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was accused of conferring a corrupt advantage by awarding a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.
Due to his failure to meet the bail conditions, Emefiele is expected to remain in the correctional centre until 2024. The former CBN governor had previously spent over four months in detention by the Department of State Security (DSS) before being taken into custody by the EFCC.
Efforts to obtain details of the meeting between the Ooni and Emefiele from the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered, and text messages were not responded to at the time of reporting.
