Political tension has intensified in Osun State as Governor Ademola Adeleke and former governor Gboyega Oyetola exchanged accusations ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The two political camps traded allegations over the conduct of the electoral process and developments surrounding the forthcoming poll.
Adeleke’s camp accused its opponents of actions capable of undermining the credibility of the election, while Oyetola’s supporters rejected the allegations and raised concerns of their own.
The exchange has added to the political atmosphere in the state, with the major parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilisation efforts ahead of election day.
Both camps have continued to urge their supporters to remain committed to their respective political platforms as they seek to secure victory at the polls.
The growing disagreement has also prompted calls from political stakeholders for restraint, with appeals to the candidates and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements capable of heightening tension.
Stakeholders have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a level playing field for all contestants and provide adequate security for voters and other participants.
The election is expected to be closely contested as the rival political camps seek to convince voters across the state.
